Rocky River Golf Club at Concord
Designed by Dan Maples, nationally known for creating some of the Carolina's top courses, Rocky River Golf Club is the premier public course in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The present turf conditions are excellent for having just opened in August 1997, and with continued enhancements the Rocky River Golf Club at Concord will be one of the finest facilities in the Carolinas. Rocky River Golf Club is owned by the City of Concord.
Rocky River is a very challenging golf course that utilizes many of the existing features of the area to provide a natural and very aesthetically appealing track. The routing flows through the existing contours of the land effortlessly, thus creating a continuous succession of sensational holes. Beautiful rock outcroppings and various species of native wetland grasses are featured along the edges of gently rolling fairways adding a touch of ruggedness and mystique.
Rocky River appeals to all skill levels of golfer from beginners to scratch. There are four sets of tees allowing play to encompass a full range of opportunities for all who delight in the game. The expected pace of play clocks in right at 4 hours 30 minutes, with starting times scheduled on 10-minute intervals.

This eighteen hole course offers greens that are undulating and extremely quick. Spacious sand bunkers come into play on most holes. The fairways are wide and rolling, however, lined with challenging rough areas. Hole #3, a 555-yard, par 5, stands out as the course's signature hole. Unique to the hole is a large, pre-existing boulder that menacingly rests in the middle of the fairway. Par is attainable. Large bunkers line the right of the green, while water guards the left side. Those who overshoot the green to the backside will encounter a sizeable slope

The best municipal course that I've ever played. Course is very well-maintained, even though the greens had patches where the crew had repaired bad spots on them (that's forgivable, though, considering the super-dry and hot summer that they were put through). The par-3s are some of the toughest around, and the par-5s are long. This course penalizes bad shots, as EVERY shot that goes outside of the fairway mounding bounces out of play, either into woods, or high grass. Course is very accessible to I-85. Nice staff and clubhouse, even though $2.50 is too much for a bottle of water. Scenery was excellent, with natural wetlands on one side of the course, and great views and sounds of Lowe's Motor Speedway on the other side. Another great design feature is the huge boulder that sits in the middle of the fairway on the 3rd hole. In all, this is a great course to play.

very nice course, well kempt
there is no recovery from very bad shots but the landing areas on most holes are big enough. wetlands surround almost every hole which is why there is no chance for recovery from a very bad shot. fairways are very nice and the greens are also very nice. without a doubt it is one of the better courses in north charlotte. the only downside is that the people at rocky river golf course like their golf course too, you may need a 2nd mortgage.
